Filming Continues

Shooting continues on Approaching Normal even as we continue to fix up and spruce up the buildings and grounds of the Lodge and even as we had a very busy Memorial Day weekend of overnight guests and a picnic and barbecue on the lawn.

Shooting a complex scene on Saturday night outside the front of the Log House

Andy Virgil is doing some much needed electrical rework for us.  Andy was my friend from childhood when our family came up to vacation and visit.  I've known him since I was 4 years old.

The porch is now finished except for a bit more painting.  Carmen Owen built the porch for us and we're very happy with it, as are our guests who've given us very nice compliments on it.

Adam McCall, one of our staff members is doing some painting on the new porch.

Of course Mindy is doing a great job with the flowers and gardens.  It's all looking great!

On Saturday, Robert Selkowitz stopped by and decided to paint a landscape of the view.  He painted this lovely picture with pastels.  We hope to have some of his artwork and books on display in the future.

The Memorial Day Picnic and 75th Anniversary Kickoff event was a lot of fun and we had a nice group of people come by and share their stories and memories with us about Garnet Hill Lodge.

Filming of "Approaching Normal" Begins

A snapshot of Preuninger's Pub tonight as the crew shoots a scene from "Approaching Normal"

Well the Lodge is looking better and better all the time.  Here are some pics showing how things are progressing.  Also, the film crew is here and they are filming a scene or two up at Hooper Mine today.  I'll have more pictures and info on what they're up to later today.

The flowers and plants by the entrance are coming up nicely.  Our local Master Gardeners are helping with the flower beds and garden design and we really appreciate their efforts and the difference they are making.  Judy Brown, who also does garnet jewelry in her nearby shop, is leading that effort.

We've finished painting along the front of the Log House and started to get the patio ready to serve food and drinks out there.

To the left is where the new screen porch is being put in.  It's coming along nicely.

And this is what it looks like from the inside right now.

More Projects

The McCord family joined us for Mother's Day weekend with their dog Ernie (background) and our dogs Cooper (golden) and Reagan (Lab) enjoyed playing together immensely.
It was a beautiful spring day for Mother's Day

The beach is pretty much ready for swimming.

I've been rescreening the Screen House

Carmen Own has begun work on a screen porch just outside of Preuninger's Pub.

We'll show more detail as work progresses.

Getting things ready for summer

For the past few days we were happy to have Mr. and Mrs. Gregg and Donna Moore staying with us for their honeymoon.  They enjoyed themselves and we enjoyed having them here.

In the guest lounge pool table room I've been starting to chink the walls to improve their look and increase their insulation capacity.  There were some pretty good drafts flowing in between the logs over the winter.  The chinking comes in large caulking gun canisters and is fairly easy to apply and manipulate.

Partially completed chinking of one wall in the pool table room

Completed except for the molding in the corner where insulation needs to go

Partially completed back wall

Old dump trailer I'm working on to be able to hook hydraulics up to my tractor.  Needs a new rear tire too.  The other implement is a sander which we'll use next winter to for the road ice and parking lot.

Assembling and coating 6 Adirondack chairs.  They should be ready for Mother's Day

Rescreening most of the screen house.  Then coating the unfinished logs and wood on the inside and it should look pretty decent again.

Ok, I know it's been a while since I've posted on the blog.  I don't want to make excuses but there certainly has been enough to do otherwise.  Even today I'm going to have to be brief as we are busy with preparations for Mothers' Day Brunch next week and training of some new employees as well as building and grounds maintenance as well as landscaping and gardening tasks as well as cleaning and painting tasks.  But letting people know how we're doing and what we're doing is important too, plus I do have some additional help now around the office now (Theresa Lane is with us 3 days a week) so I can concentrate more on other things.
We have a new summer employee joining us today as well at the front desk.  Her name is Kayla and she's a student at Paul Smiths College.  We're very happy to have her helping our guests and handling some of the social networking tasks for the Lodge.

I'll do better at keeping things up to date on this page.  In the meantime, here are some recent photos to take a look at.

I couple of weeks ago Mindy and I managed to get away for a hike back on Old Farm Road and on toward  Botheration pond where this bridge is located over the Sacandaga River.  It was about and easy mile and a half each way.

Yesterday, (Cinco de Mayo) we had a nice group of people here to take in the spring air and sunshine on the lawn and then watch the Kentucky Derby with us in the guest lounge. (Sorry I didn't get a photo of that).

This photo shows how the brush cleanup is progressing on the hillside overlooking Thirteenth Lake.  It's got a ways to go but has come a long way to this point already.

Here's another angle along the ridge line looking back towards the generator shed and road.  Of course Cooper has to mug for the camera too.

Here are some additional pics from a few weeks ago that I didn't get a chance to post.
